The Food Chain

The charity, the Food Chain, exists to ensure that people living with HIV in London can access the nutrition they need to get well, stay well and lead healthy, independent lives.  It delivers meals and groceries, offers cooking and nutrition classes and communal eating opportunities to people living with HIV in London and their dependants.  The Food Chain served its first meal on Christmas Day 1988, and meals have been delivered every week since.

The charity offers a range of services tailored to provide appropriate support to anyone living with HIV in London.  It receives a very small proportion of its funding from statutory sources, and is therefore dependent on fund raising to enable it to continue to provide services and develop new services such as:

  • Emergency food hampers for people returning from hospital or experiencing difficulties with accessing benefits
  • Weekly grocery boxes to the most isolated and chronically sick service users
  • Employment of a HIV specialist community dietician

The ongoing aims of the charity are:

  1. To feed more people living with HIV in London more often and to increase the impact of food delivery services, ensuring that services are focussed where they are needed most.
  2. To provide access to nutritional information which allows service users to make better choices about the food they eats.
  3. To address the growing social isolation of living with HIV in our community.
  4. To empower service users further to lead independent lives.
  5. To strengthen the Food Chain by building an organisation that provides services effectively and efficiently.

Please give generously in support of this worthwhile charity.
