Open Church

As usual, we will be opening the church to visitors on Tuesday and Wednesday between 11.30 am and 2.30 pm, and on Thursday between 11.30 am and 1.30 pm, from 19 June to the end of August.  We need two people to be in the church every day to show people round and answer questions.  If you have some time to spare and would like to help, please speak to Margaret Ross.

A schedule will appear on the notice board in the hall in due course.

Bookstall/Welcome Desk

In addition to Life and Work, you can also find copies of Does my soul look big in this? the latest publication by Reverend Rosemary Lain-Priestley, price £9, and a selection of attractive hand-made greeting cards, price £1.

Available free of charge are the latest issue of Circle of Care (News from CrossReach), together with the CrossReach Prayer Letter from June to September.

Christian Aid collections

The provisional total for the money raised during Christian Aid week is £2.050.37.  There will be a retiring offering for Christian Aid after both services on Sunday 3 June, and gift aid envelopes will be available at the back of the church.

Induction of Reverend Angus McLeod

The service of induction of Reverend Angus McLeod as Minister of St Columba’s Church, Pont Street will take place on Thursday 7 June at St Columba’s Church, Pont Street at 7 pm, followed by a reception in the lower hall.

The Kirk Session of St Columba’s extends an invitation to members of Crown Court to join them at this service.

The service is organised by the Presbytery of England and our own Session Clerk, who is this year’s moderator of the Presbytery, is leading the service and our Minister is also participating in the service.

Jubilee River Pageant on Sunday 3 June

Many of the bridges over the Thames will be closed on Sunday 3 June for the Jubilee River Pageant.  A copy of the bridge overview published by Transport for London, together with details of road closures over the Jubilee weekend, is available on a dedicated page on the TfL website at http://www.tfl.gov.uk/gettingaround/23610.aspx

Jolomo stock clearance

We have the following items for sale:

  • 2012 appointment calendars at £1 (2 only)
  • large 2012 calendars at £2 (9 only)
  • spiral notebooks showing Whisky Drinkers by Tim Cockburn on the cover at £2 (2 only)

These items are available on the welcome desk in the hall, and proceeds will go to the lighting fund.

Also still available are limited edition prints, gifted by Jolomo and signed by him, price £50, in aid of Borderline.  Please contact the church secretary if you would like to buy one of the prints. 

 

Final Hugh Price Hughes Lecture

The last in this year’s series of lectures, with the theme “Belonging Together?” will be held on Tuesday 12 June at Hinde Street Methodist Church at 7.30pm.  The speaker is Katei Kirby, and the subject is “Belonging together – dream or reality?”
