Lent Bible Study

The Minister will be holding a series of Lent Bible study sessions on the following dates:

  • Wednesday 17 February
  • Wednesday 24 February
  • Wednesday 2 March
  • Wednesday 9 March
  • Wednesday 16 March.

Sessions will be held in the vestry from 6.15 pm to 7.15 pm, and all are welcome to attend.  The Minister puts a great deal of work into preparing for these sessions, and it would be good to see a reasonable attendance.  Even if you can’t commit to getting to every session, you will be most welcome whenever you can make it.

Vocations Conference

The next conference for people interested in finding out more about how God might be calling them to serve in the Church of Scotland will be held at Carnegie Conference Centre, Dunfermline, on Saturday 6 February 2016.   Further details and an application form are available on the Tomorrow’s Calling website.

Hugh Price Hughes Lectures 2016

This year’s lecture series, held at Hinde Street Methodist Church, Hinde Street, W1U 2QJ, is entitled Thinking for Today’s World: “Faith in …”.  The first lecture will be held on Tuesday 9 February at 7 pm, and the speaker is Dr Robert Asher, an evolutionary biologist who is Curator of Vertebrates in the University Museum of Zoology, Cambridge.  Admission is free and all are welcome.  Full details of all lectures in the series are available on the Hinde Street Methodist Church website.

Bloomsbury Organ Day

This will take place at Bloomsbury Central Baptist Church, Shaftesbury Avenue, on Saturday 30 January from 1 pm to 7 pm.  Between 1 pm and 6 pm there will be free recitals by the Royal College of Organists Academy Organ School.  At 6 pm there will be a celebrity recital by John Scott Whiteley, which will cost £5.

This year Easter is very early, so Lent and Easter will be upon us before we know it!  Here is advance notice of significant dates:

Sunday 6 March Mothering Sunday: quarterly communion
Sunday 20 March Palm Sunday: Annual Business Meeting of the congregation after the morning service and a quick lunch
 Thursday 24 March  Maundy Thursday: simple shared supper with a brief celebration of  communion at 7 pm in the hall
 Friday 25 March  Good Friday: service at 11.15 am in the church
 Sunday 27 March  Easter Sunday (clocks go forward this weekend!)
