Lady Frances: Frances Balfour, Aristocrat Suffragist – books for sale

Image of cover of bookFollowing the very successful launch of Joan B Huffman’s biography of Lady Frances in the church on 16 May, there are still a few copies of the book available to purchase at £19.99.  The author wished the church to benefit from the sale of the books, so has very generously donated them.

All proceeds from the sale will therefore go to the Organ Renovation Fund.  Please see Sarah Pipkin or the church secretary if you would like to purchase the book.

Open Church

During June, July and August, we try to open the church to visitors between 12 noon and 3 pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  In order to keep the church open we need to have at least two volunteers on duty every day.  If you are able to spare some time to help with this venture, please speak to Margaret Ross.

Service of Thanksgiving Saturday 9 June – 11.30 am

This service is being held to remember and give thanks for those friends, family and loved ones who have been part of our lives but are now no longer with us.

During the service we will remember each by name and give thanks for all that made them special.  If you would like to include any family member, friend or loved one please give names to the church secretary.  There will also be an opportunity to view the Book of Remembrance kept at the back of the church, and to arrange for an entry to be made if desired.

After the service light refreshments will be served in the church hall, for which all are welcome to join us.

General Assembly

This year’s General Assembly takes place in Edinburgh from 18 – 25 May.  The Minister and Geordie Fergusson are Commissioners this year, and Sheena Tait will be at the Heart and Soul event in Princes Street Gardens on Sunday 20 May, helping at the Scots in Great War London tent.  Look out for reports on the Assembly and Heart and Soul in the August issue of The Chronicle.

Vocations Information Day

A Vocations Information Day will be held at Doubletree Hilton by Dunblane Hydro on 9 June, and will provide an opportunity to explore ways of serving God and finding out how he might be calling you.  Further information and a detailed programme is available on the Church of Scotland website
