Christmas goody bags for Bruce House

Once again we’re going to make up gift bags for the residents of Bruce House, so please bring in your donations of chocolate, biscuits, crisps and a toiletry item by Sunday 16 December.  As far as possible we want to make all the bags more or less the same, so there will be a sample in the hall to let you know what to bring.

Carol singing for Christian Aid Friday 14 December 5 – 6 pm

Once again we’ve been allocated the 5 – 6 pm slot for carol singing in Trafalgar Square on Friday 14 December, which is earlier than we would have liked, but we hope that it will still be a successful event.  We will need lots of help with singing and  collecting money, so keep an eye on the church notices for further details.

Crown Court Christmas Cards and 2019 Calendar

Our Christmas Cards were available for sale at the Christmas Market on 17 November.  This year’s card features a stunning photograph by Chris Close, and more of the wonderful photographs taken during his photoshoot earlier this year can be seen in the 2019 calendar, which was also on sale at the Market.

Some Christmas cards are still available at a cost of £1 per card, or 6 for £5.  Calendars (showing in red key dates for our Tercentenary Year) are also still available at a cost of £7 each (including envelope).

Moderator’s Visit

This year the annual visit to Westminster of the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, the Right Reverend Susan Brown, takes place from 25 November to 3 December, and once again our Minister will act as Chaplain during the visit.  The Moderator will preach at the evening service here in Crown Court on Sunday 2 December, which is also quarterly communion and the first Sunday in Advent, so  we look forward to seeing a good turnout of members for this service, as well as the morning service.

The evening service will be followed by a reception in the hall when members will have the opportunity to meet the Moderator and her husband, Reverend Dr Derek Brown.

Advent Bible Study

The Minister is running a short series of Bible study sessions for Advent on the following dates: Tuesday 4, 11 and 18  December from 6 – 7 pm in the vestry.  Do come along and join Philip for these sessions.  It doesn’t matter if you can’t commit to attending them all: just come when you can.  You will be most welcome.
